Cathie Richardson

Cathie Richardson Photo.jpg

Cathie is a ceramic artist specializing in wheel-thrown pieces reflecting her love for pottery and color. Her pieces are meant to be used and enjoyed not only for their intended function but also to showcase their vibrant abstract colors, images and flows.

While relatively new to ceramic art, Cathie incorporates her love of color and experience in fluid art into her pottery. By using different glazing techniques and colors, she endeavors to create vibrant abstract patterns
that flow into one another.

Cathie has been fortunate to have several talented mentors that have shaped her ability to continually strive to improve her craft. She has been attending classes at the Jansen Art Center in Lynden for the last several years and initially worked with a talented

ceramic artist (trained in Japanese techniques) who helped her develop her wheel throwing. Currently she works with a local ceramic artist, who creates large vessels and sculptures. This talented artist has piqued her interest in working on both large and small bowls and vases.

Cathie loves to explore not only different glaze combinations, but to try different methods in creating ceramic art. For example, carving clay (or sgraffito), using underglazes, utilizing and creating slips, hand building, incorporating mason stains in her clay, and Raku.

Striving to improve her techniques while using different glaze combinations and styles drives her to continually learn, experiment and create ceramic art. She hopes that you will use her pieces and enjoy the colors and abstract images and patterns she has crafted for you.
